Keith Moon's Blue Plaque.
March 8th 2009
Wardour Street. Soho
The fact it was happening at all was due to the persistence of two fans who lobbied English Heritage and failed. Keith had not been deemed appropriate as an 'outstanding historical figure'. The fight was taken up by newspapers and finally Westminster Council sensing a big blue magnet for tourists agreed to stick one up on the site where The Marquee Club once stood.
The Plaque above needs better clarification. I can recommend the film 'Expresso Bongo' starring Cliff Richard and Laurence Harvey to provide the best insight to the claims of Soho Coffee houses being the birthplace of 'pop' culture. Link
As Biography's go Tony Fletcher's book on Keith Moon is one of the best I've ever read.
